The Replication:
A grey backdrop was used instead of a white backdrop. The size of the umbrellas I used also varied. I had one medium umbrella on the right and one large umbrella on the left. The strobe heads pointed straight and the center to the umbrella came up to the subjects head. A beauty dish was placed about 9ft up and pointed slightly down at an angle. I did not use v-flats as depicted below.

Creative Review, Kandar's project was inspired by the work of Richard Avedon, from 1976, which featured 73 portraits of powerful people and was published in Rolling Stone magazine.

After evaluating the diagram, before shooting, we discussed using a ring flash to achieve the shadow around the subject and using a strobe to light the face.
